El Jardin details
In an age where houses are built quickly and cheaply, it’s a refreshing change when somewhere is converted with love. And that’s exactly the case at El Jardin. Over 100-years old, it’s part of a small group of cottages and houses called El Acebuchal which sits in the folds of a lovely valley in the National Park of the Tejeda and Almijara mountains. The surroundings are nothing short of exhilarating – you’ve got pine trees at every turn, while aromatic thyme and rosemary scent the hillsides.
The villa itself was converted by a local family and has a traditional Spanish feel, with a distinctly rustic finish. Inside, impressive beamed ceilings and terracotta floors are mixed up with walls of varying colours. And there’s more than a hint of modern about the place, too, with a TV, DVD player and fully-equipped kitchen that includes a dishwasher.
Outside the villa, meanwhile, there’s your own covered circular pool. And as you’d expect, you’ve also got a barbecue and patio furniture for al fresco meals. Further afield, you’re a 15-minute drive from the restaurants, bars and shops in Frigiliana with little else but countryside in between. But that’s the beauty of this villa – the setting is idyllic and the crowd’s a million miles away.
