The Maldives is a place that needs no introduction, but this small island may not be on your radar yet. It’s only 350 metres long – about the size of three and a half football pitches. It’s fringed with white sands lapped by turquoise waters. And surrounding the whole thing is a reef alive with tropical fish.
There are only forty bungalows on the island, so it’s got a really intimate feel. Each bungalow is separated by gardens and palms, and looks over the beach. They’re built in stone with thatched roofs, giving them a Robinson Crusoe feel. Inside, meanwhile, they’re simple but comfy bases. Fuss-free white walls and pine furniture are teamed with soft-furnishings in tropical blues and oranges. All rooms come with satellite TVs, minibars and air-conditioning.
On the food front, the restaurant is open-air. The resort is All Inclusive, so you can look forward to hearty buffets. It’s all about laid-back luxury here, so don’t be surprised if fellow guests are in their swimming gear and havaianas at breakfast. For an extra treat, you can book a private table on the sand for a romantic candle-lit dinner.
In terms of what else is on offer, it’s all about watersports of the sedate kind – by that we mean sailing on a catamaran or island-hopping. And then there’s the snorkelling. The shallow waters around the reef are the perfect place to give it a try. For more land-based activities, head to the spa. It’s got loads of treatments on the menu, but a must-try is their signature ‘sense of touch’ treatment. It includes a full-body massage and being lathered in vanilla and whipped cocoa massage butter.
