The Grand Hotel Vesuvio first opened back in 1882. Since then, it’s attracted guests like Errol Flynn and Grace Kelly. Its most celebrated Italian guest, opera singer Enrico Caruso, even has a restaurant named after him – a swanky rooftop affair with fabulous views over the Bay of Naples.
Inside, everything is on a grand scale. There’s a huge marble lobby and breakfast restaurant with picture windows overlooking the hills. As for the bedrooms, they’re fairly simple. The best are those facing the coast – their balconies look out over the sea and Mount Vesuvius.
There’s a pool here, too. It’s a large affair with a snack bar alongside it. Elsewhere, you’ll find a luxurious spa offering a hydrotherapy pool, gym and indulgent massages.
Location-wise, the hotel sits in the hills at the back of Sorrento. There’s a regular courtesy bus to run you into town, or you can take a cab or local bus.
