The sleepy village of Es Castell, on the outskirts of Mahon, is the setting for the Hotel Rey Carlos III. The hotel stands on a headland, overlooking Mahon’s pretty, natural harbour. The saltwater pool and sun terrace command the best views of the harbour, with white-sailed boats and super-yachts gliding past throughout the day. Es Castell’s bar-and-café-edged main plaza is less than 5 minutes’ stroll away, and the small fishing harbour of Cales Fonts is around 10 minutes away on foot. Here, you’ll find a selection of superb seafood restaurants along the quayside. If you fancy a change of pace, the smart boutiques and grand Georgian houses of Mahon are just 15 minutes away by bus.

The hotel’s restaurant has a wall of windows along one side, with widescreen views across the water. Cuisine has a Mediterranean flavour, and uses fresh produce from local farmers. There’s also a terrace complete with a pergola for al fresco dining.
