With its traditional wooden huts and unspoilt surroundings, Makunudu Island Resort is all about connecting with nature.

Set on a tiny island, this small resort is made up of 36 beachfront bungalows. Just footsteps from the sea and surrounded by greenery, they really make the most of their tropical surroundings. Each one even comes with an open-air bathroom, set in a private garden. Inside, the villas use wood and textured stone to good effect. Large windows let in plenty of light, while air-conditioning keeps things comfortable.

As for the beach, it’s a postcard-pretty stretch of white sand lapped by clear, shallow waters. The whole island is surrounded by fantastic corals and plenty of marine life, making it a great spot for snorkelling and scuba diving. And because the hotel has its own dive centre, it’s really easy to get started - your All Inclusive package even includes an introductory dive for beginners.

Elsewhere, there are plenty of other sports on offer. Hire a catamaran, or try your hand at a spot of waterskiing. Back on dry land, you’ll find the likes of volleyball and badminton.

When it comes to eating and drinking, meanwhile, the hotel’s restaurant is on hand with wide-ranging buffets. Eastern specialities sit side-by-side with home favourites, and there’s plenty of fresh meat, fish and tropical fruit.
