This family-run hotel has friendly staff, a decent-sized pool, and a great location close to the beach.

The secret to the Mathraki Studios’ success is that it’s a real home-from-home. It’s family-run – past guests have commented about how friendly they are. And the studios come with small kitchenettes for rustling up meals, plus balconies furnished with tables and chairs for al fresco dining.

Outside, the focal point is the pool, which stretches almost the length of the building and comes with a children’s section. The pool bar doubles up as a TV room and restaurant, and dishes include omelettes made with freshly-laid eggs from the owners’ hens.

In terms of location, this place is in a quiet part of Arilas, 5 minutes’ walk from the main cluster of bars and restaurants. The sand-and-shingle beach is about the same distance – you’ll find several tavernas dotted along it, and a few cocktail bars as well.
