Riad Elizabeth details
This traditional riad offers a quiet retreat in the heart of Marrakech’s atmospheric ancient medina.
Riad Elizabeth is squirrelled away in Hart Essoura, the oldest quarter in Marrakech’s medina. It’s built in traditional style, with rooms facing in to a cool central courtyard. On the ground floor you’ll find a dining room, a cosy b’hou – seating area – and a black-tiled plunge pool. Up on the roof, meanwhile, there’s a rose-red terrace with loungers, plenty of shaded seating and a bar.
There are just 6 bedrooms in total, giving the riad an intimate, boutique feel. In terms of design, the British owners have blended chic, contemporary interiors with authentic Moroccan touches like lanterns and mosaic tiles. Each room is decorated slightly differently, with quirky touches like monochrome wall art and zebra-print stools.
Five minutes’ walk will put you in the medina’s warren-like souks, while Jemaa el-Fna can be reached in 10. Rahba Kedima Square, the Ben Youssef Medersa and the Musée de Marrakech are also close by.
