Sirin Ev details
Watch the hustle and bustle of day-to-day village life unfold from Sirin Ev’s small, carved wooden balcony. Overhanging the lane below, this view of Kalkan’s old quarter is the perfect accompaniment to your morning cup of Turkish coffee. But if narrow, cobbled streets aren’t for you, there's a second bougainvillea-covered balcony, with views across the rooftops and towards the sea.
Sirin Ev is a traditional Turkish town house and a holiday hideaway, which just exudes romance. Enter the retreat from a small lane and you’re on the ground floor of a two-floor, air-conditioned escape. The bottom level has a cloakroom and brightly-coloured open-plan kitchen-living area where, if you love to cook, there’s an oven, four-ring hob and fridge-freezer. And, because you can’t travel with your whole wardrobe, there’s also a washing machine. The second level has an ensuite shower room, antique furniture and a pitched ceiling with dark timber beams. But the real focus here is the king-sized bed, with its gelato-coloured duvet, cushions and a sequin-studded mosquito net, and the dramatic French doors, which open onto both the balconies.
Outside Sirin Ev, you’re only a two-minute walk from the pebbly town beach and the local restaurants are even closer to home. In the lane below the house there’s a small café – perfect if you’re not a Jamie Oliver type or if you just want a nightcap. And those who love the challenge of getting themselves lost in a new city, will relish the chance to wander the maze of alleyways. Further afield, there’s Kapitas Bay and Patara Beach, which can both be reached using the regular dolmus service.
