Location

Malia is located 25km east of Heraklion, on the way to Agios Nikolaos. The town itself is unusual small town, unlike any other in Crete. It has developed thanks to tourism interest over recent years and is divided into two distinct areas the old town with its charming old buildings, squares and narrow winding streets and the newer more tourist-based modern side.

What you see here is a complete different image of Malia compared to the old town. Filled with clubs, bars, cafes, English and Irish pubs and fast food joints, serving anything from souvlaki to pizzas, it is the place to be for those who fancy a good night out. Late in the evening and during the night it starts to be the busiest road of Malia. Most of the partying and drinking takes place on the street, which is closed to traffic at night.

Alternatively just as close by you could head to Stalis, which is the perfect place if you are looking to spend lazy days out on the golden sandy beach and its blue waters. For a more adventurous day there are always plenty of water sports to try and if you are up for a bit of exploring then you can find some fascinating historical sites in the area like the Palace of King Minos at Knossos and Heraklion, with its impressive Venetian architecture and imposing castle.
