This retreat has all the hallmarks of a first class hotel. But it’s not over-styled. Palm-height buildings in buttermilk shades cluster around a lake-sized pool, giving it a village-esque feel. Inside, it delivers the same fuss-free approach to design. In the lobby, church-style leaded windows arch up to domed atrium ceilings, while Gothic chandeliers shine down on terracotta-tiled floors.
As for the bedrooms, their arched ceilings echo the lobby layout. White walls are contrasted with splashes of blue, green and yellow, and the floors are tiled in a classic Egyptian pattern. All the rooms have air-conditioning and TVs, too, as well as a balcony or terrace.
When it comes to keeping busy, there’s plenty to choose from. Relax by the swimming pool, or take the shuttle bus down to the wide pebble and sand beach. It’s only a few minutes’ drive away and comes with a beach bar, and a waterside swimming pool. If you fancy practising your swing, there’s an 18-hole golf course separating the hotel from the beach.
The hotel’s dining scene is just as impressive. In the main restaurant, breakfast, lunch and dinner are help-yourself buffets, often with themes like ‘Wonders of the Far East’ or ‘French Romance’. Chez Pascal, the Belgian à la carte, presents seafood and lobster in a white-linen-and-candlelight setting.
