With its lemon-coloured exterior and green shutters, Villa Dimitra looks rather cute. Immediately in front of the house, there’s an L-shaped pool with a surrounding patio terrace that offers up plenty of space to relax with a good book. What’s more, it’s sitting above a forest of eucalyptus trees – that carpet the hillside as it drops down towards the sea – the views are just lovely.

Inside, despite being open plan, tiled floors, whitewashed walls, beamed ceilings and an open fireplace give a distinct nod to traditional Greece. Furniture is generally a mix of old and modern and is used sparingly – certainly there’s no sense of clutter at all. And in terms of bedrooms, you’ve got two twins that share a bathroom, although both come with their own balcony.

As for the location, it’s about a ten-minute drive from not only the nearest taverna and mini-market, but also the beach, which in this case, is shingle. Or if you’re feeling energetic, there’s a small road behind the villa which kick-starts some pleasant walks, with the village of Alaties about 30 minutes away.
