A sleek Mediterranean villa, this place is all terracotta roof tiles and white walls. It’s covered in fuchsia bougainvillea and bordered by glossy palms, too, so it’s good looking to say the least.

Inside, the décor goes down the traditional route. In the living room, you’ve got whitewashed walls, wooden flooring and plump sofas. The bedrooms continue in a similar vein - think cool tiled floors, patterned bedding and simple furniture.

Looks aside, Villa Maria leaves nothing out when it comes to facilities. The kitchen is kitted out with an oven, a microwave, a hob, a fridge-freezer, a washing machine and a coffee-maker. In the living-come-dining room, meanwhile, you’ll find a satellite TV and a DVD player, as well as a cosy fireplace and a smart dining table - so you’re all set for nights in.

The main draw here, though, is the pool scene. Head outside and you’ll find a good-sized turquoise number set in a roomy stone terrace. There’s a table, chairs and a barbecue out here, too, so you can take advantage of al fresco lunches in the sunshine.

Location-wise, this place has bagged a first-class position. It’s set in a residential area of Carvoeiro, so you can look forward to some much-needed peace and quiet, without being too far from all the action. If you hop in the car, you’ll reach the centre of Carvoeiro in under five minutes. And it takes even less time to get to the beach.
