Lovingly restored in 2005, this cosy one-bedroom cottage has plenty of individual character. Fresh blue and yellow is the theme in the living area, where there’s also a comfy sofa bed. And the colours are teamed to great effect on the walls, the kitchen tiles and the seating fabrics. Set against the light tiled floors and dark vaulted wooden ceiling, they give a bright, cheerful air to this multi-functional room.

With a dining table and chairs and a well-equipped kitchen, you’ve got all you need for rustling up some tasty dishes with fresh local ingredients from the nearby shops and supermarket. Both are just a short drive away. And if you prefer to be outside, there’s another table and chairs on the patio, as well as a built-in barbecue.

As for location, the Gusbar ticks all the right boxes for tranquility and the away-from-it-all factor. Tucked away in mountainous countryside, it feels miles from anywhere. But in fact, it’s only a few minutes’ drive from the little village of El Paso, where there are shops, bars and restaurants. And although the cottage doesn’t have a swimming pool, a 15 minute drive takes you to the volcanic sands of Tazacorte.
