Head up a winding track from the sleepy hamlet of Gökcebel and you’ll discover this hillside villa. It’s a pretty sight thanks to the property’s stone exterior, established gardens and bright bougainvilleas. And that’s before you spy the elegant sun terrace and a weathered olive tree said to be 1,000 years old.

This tranquil setting is carried through into the villa’s interior. There are delicate muslin curtains and an airy open-plan living and dining area with cream sofas and a TV. The living area’s French doors open out onto the terrace, which runs along the house and is scattered with wooden chairs, terracotta pots and an umbrella. From the terrace, it’s only a short walk to the rectangular swimming pool and its cushioned sun loungers. The villa sleeps four comfortably and its two bedrooms have wooden floors, and – off the master bedroom – a luxurious, marble and mosaic en suite bathroom.

Although Villa Ayse is secluded, Gökcebel is only a five-minute drive, or a half hour walk, for supermarket essentials. Further away is Yalikavak, with its restaurants, lively Thursday market and sailing or snorkelling trips from the harbour.
