Pefkos’ beach slopes gently into the warm sea, and there’s a couple of neabry bars for the obligatory ice-cream stop. The curve of soft sand has a few pebbly areas, and is edged by pine trees offering dappled shade. There are sunbeds, too, and some watersports from May to October. Of course you may prefer to pull up a chair back at the hotel pool, and enjoy the flower-filled gardens and wonderful views out to sea.

Do make time to visit picturesque Lindos, just 3km away. Sugar cube houses tumble down the hillside to the beach, away from the magnificent castle which presides over the town. Here you’ll find more energetic nightlife and shops and restaurants galore. An hour up the coast lies Rhodes Town, where medieval streets brimming with history and tempting tavernas await your exploration. Take the local bus which runs daily, or go by taxi.
