The Pestana Alvor Praia is nestled among pine forests that stretch over 10 acres, so it’s nicely tucked away. It’s set on a clifftop overlooking Três Irmãos Beach, and there’s a lift that’ll whisk you right down to the sands. That said, it’s less than a 20-minute walk from the centre of Vila de Alvor.

A saltwater swimming pool takes pride of place in the grounds. It’s circled by neat rows of sunbeds and sky-high palm trees. There’s also a pool just for children, plus a bar that’s well-stocked with cocktails and snacks.

There’s another pool inside the hotel’s spa. This one’s heated, and sits alongside a Turkish bath, a whirlpool bath and a sauna.

At mealtimes in the Almofarix restaurant, you’ve got the option of trying International and Portuguese cuisine from the à la carte menu, or selecting dishes from a themed buffet spread. The Bistro, meanwhile, serves up à la carte lunches and snack.
