Set in the quiet seaside town of Maiori, the Hotel Pietra di Luna is in a fantastic position for exploring the Amalfi Coast’s attractions. The friendly staff get great reviews, too.

The Hotel Pietra di Luna makes a great holiday base – it’s just a couple of minutes’ walk from the centre of Maiori, and a 20-minute bus ride from the postcard seaside town of Amalfi. Just across the road is a tree-lined promenade that skirts the seafront. The sand-and-pebble beach lies just the other side – the hotel has its own private patch where you’ll find sunloungers and parasols.

Looks-wise, it’s a typical seaside hotel – a 5-storey whitewashed affair with stripy awnings. It’s set on a roomy sun terrace, next to a long, rectangular swimming pool and a children’s pool.

Inside, there’s a cosy bar kitted out with retro Sixties-style orange chairs and comfy light-green sofas. Dark-wood panelling, a chandelier and a corniced ceiling give it a classic air. The dining room has a similar feel, too. Breakfasts are help-yourself buffets, while evening meals are waiter service with menus of typical Italian dishes.
