The Hotel Vell Mari counts acres of gardens and a great list of activities as highlights, so it’s perfect if you’re looking for a family base.

The Hotel Vell Mari is set in the peaceful Son Bauló neighbourhood, among acres of pine trees and manicured gardens. It’s a great place to stay if you want to keep active – there’s a full programme of sports events, such as rifle shooting, archery and paddle tennis. You can also hire bikes, and set off on the trails that lace the surrounding forest.

Relaxing is easy, as well. The hotel gardens give way to a large swimming pool, which weaves its way round a sunny terrace with a good helping of sunbeds and parasols. And if you’d rather swap pool for beach, Son Bauló’s stretch of sand is only a 15-minute walk away.

The apartments and studios have been decorated in a fuss-free Mediterranean way – think whitewashed walls, dark-wood furniture and cool tiled floors. They’re nice and roomy, and come with spacious open-plan kitchen and dining areas.
