There’s no mistaking you’re in Thailand when you stay at the Khao Lak Bhandari Resort. For starters, this hotel is just a 5-minute walk from one of the country’s most unspoilt beaches, Khao Lak Beach.

Then you’ve got the hotel’s design. Architectural elements like sloping red roofs and extended eaves are classically Thai. As are the grounds, which are landscaped with canals and lotus ponds. The large swimming pool has been designed to look like a tropical lagoon, and is surrounded by palm trees. Bedrooms have the authentic look, too. They feature dark-wood floors and furniture, and traditional paintings on the walls.

The spa is undeniably Asian. It’s set inside an open-sided pavilion and the communal spaces are dotted with Thai futons. The treatment menu includes traditional therapies like Thai massage alongside honey body scrubs and facials.

In the restaurant, the menu combines national dishes with international cuisine. Several times a month, the hotel hosts a themed dinner. For this, diners sit on cushions on the floor, and Thai dishes are brought out on traditional khantoke trays.
