This place is right in the heart of Old Havana, so you’re well placed for exploring. Not only have you got all the must-sees, like the Plaza de la Catedral, at your fingertips, but there are also plenty of shops, bars and restaurants nearby. What’s more, the Malecón – Havana’s popular seaside hangout – is just 20 minutes away.

The hotel itself is actually split into two neighbouring properties – the colonial-style Parque Central and the new Parque Central Torre. The two buildings are linked together by an underground tunnel, so you can cross between them whenever you like.

In terms of bedrooms, the ones at the Parque Central are elegantly kitted out with carved-wood furniture and cream walls. Walking into the Parque Central Torre, meanwhile, is like stepping into the pages of an interior design magazine, with bedrooms featuring dove-grey chaise lounges, chunky modern furniture and bold scarlet bedspreads. In-room extras like satellite TVs, minibars and Wi-Fi access provide the trimmings in both hotels.

Elsewhere, the Parque Central’s huge rooftop pool is the main attraction. There’s a poolside bar, too, complete with a shady terrace that offers up great views of the city. For out-and-out pampering, meanwhile, book a massage at the spa or take a soak in the whirlpool bath.

Between the two hotels, there are more than enough restaurants to eat in a different one every day of the week. The main eatery, Mediterraneo, is the place for relaxed meals. Lunch and dinner are à la carte, while breakfast is a buffet. El Paseo steak house is another favourite, and the wine list is just as impressive as the food. And for after-dinner drinks, head to the cigar lounge – it does a great mojito.
