Villa Calithea details
Calithea means ‘good views’ in Greek, and this hillside villa really lives up to its name – the vista stretches across the Ionian Sea to Corfu and the Greek mainland.
Whitewashed Villa Calithea is anchored into a pine-cloaked hillside on Paxos’ east coast, a few minutes’ walk from the sleepy hamlet of Dendiatika. A further 15 minutes will take you down through groves of silvery olive trees to the waterside village of Loggos. Here, you’ll find a handful of traditional tavernas, and a harbour where you can hire boats to explore the coastline and neighbouring Anti Paxos. Narrow donkey tracks lead down through the hills to nearby beaches – you can reach the unspoilt stretch at Glyfada in about 15 minutes.
At the villa itself, there’s an open-plan kitchen-living area, with a fireplace and doors to a covered veranda. From there, steps lead down to the pool – a small, kidney-shaped affair overlooking the sea. Surrounding the pool is a stone terrace, which is laid out with loungers for sunbathing. There’s a barbecue out here, too.
The 2 bedrooms are simple and comfortable, with wooden furnishings and brightly coloured bedspreads. The double also comes with sea views and glass doors leading out to the veranda.
