If you fancy getting off the tourist trail and experiencing Binibeca like a local, this traditional-style villa is a great option. For starters, it’s cocooned by gardens and set in a sleepy residential area, so there’s nothing to disturb the peace. But quiet doesn’t equal out on a limb in this case. The centre of Binibeca is around a 20-minute walk away and the beach is a little closer – it’ll take you about 15 minutes to get there on foot.

The villa itself is a snapshot of classic Menorcan architecture – all olivewood fencing, whitewashed walls and terracotta roof tiles. Head inside and a simple but homely set-up greets you. Exposed wooden beams and an open redbrick fireplace create a cottage-y feel in the living room, while a satellite TV and a DVD player add a 21st-century touch. As for the kitchen, it’s an open-plan set-up featuring modern must-haves like a microwave, a freezer and a washing machine. There’s a dining area complete with a chunky pine table and chairs, too.

Elsewhere, there are three bedrooms to choose from – one double and two twins. They’re light and airy, with dark-wood beds dressed in floral linen. But the pièce de résistance of this place has to be the rooftop terrace. Offering up an out-of-the-way sanctuary and panoramic sea views, it’s the perfect place to unwind.

In terms of where else to relax, head for the outdoor pool. It’s a classic rectangular shape set into a chunky stone surround. There’s a built-in barbecue at one end, as well as a pretty open-air dining terrace that overlooks the gardens.
