Aletri Cottage details
This quirky, whitewashed cottage – once the home of monks from the monastery behind – is over a hundred years old. It’s been lovingly converted into a versatile living space with its original features. The three bedrooms, for instance, have polished floors, wood-clad ceilings and are decorated with family heirlooms. One even has an antique four-poster bed and French doors which open onto a second-level balcony.
The cottage has three separate entrances – through the kitchen, the twin bedroom and the formal living room. These ground-floor rooms can be used as one large space, but there are doors for privacy, too. The old-world kitchen has a fridge/freezer, oven and microwave, as well as a washing machine. The lounge, meanwhile, has original Skopelitian furniture, a fireplace and walls covered with old photos.
Outside, on the spacious patio there’s a barbecue and a table for six that’s shaded by trees. The rectangular pool has a small terrace for sunbathing. And, when you count each of the balconies there’s a quiet spot for everyone. Depending which balcony you pick, you’ll get views of the hillside and sea, or the uninhabited monastery and Agios Riginos’ bell tower.
If you want to explore, it’s just a ten-minute drive to Skopelos Town. Here you can sip Greek coffee in a harbourside taverna, walk its narrow streets or take a bus to the nearby beaches and sheltered coves.
