Set among thick jungle on a white-sand beach, the Be Live Grand Marien embodies every Caribbean stereotype.

The Be Live Grand Marien is made up of low-level thatched-roof buildings, which are spread out among tropical gardens and palm-lined pathways. The greenery sweeps right down to the white sands and turquoise waves of Costa Dorada Beach.

In the middle of the complex you’ll find a huge lagoon-like pool. It’s framed by rockery and dotted with waterfalls, and loops around islands and bridges. Elsewhere, there’s a tranquil spa. With its bamboo sticks, exposed stone and wicker furniture, it’s a calm, bohemian-style space. Head here to relax in an open-air Jacuzzi or enjoy a massage.

When it comes to dining, the buffet restaurant serves made-to-order omelettes and freshly-blended smoothies at breakfast, while the lunch and dinner selection features international favourites like spaghetti bolognese. There are Mexican and seafood à la cartes, as well. For something extra special, book a table at the Dominican Gastronomy restaurant – it gets rave reviews for its great steaks.
