Combining Venetian elegance with a great setting, this hotel puts the beach within walking distance.

Set in the quiet part of Lido di Jesolo, the Hotel Milton Romantik couldn’t be in a better spot. You’ll find it on the main street between Marina and Nember Squares, just a few metres from a private stretch of sand. There are plenty of bars and restaurants on the doorstep, too.

As for the hotel itself, it’s got a touch of grandeur about it. Take the entrance for instance. All stone lions and Venetian barber shop poles, it’s the picture of understated elegance. The lobby is kitted out with gold-and-blue striped sofas and vintage Persian rugs. And the restaurant’s glass chandeliers and pillars set the scene for buffet breakfasts and waiter service dinners.

The bedrooms, meanwhile, are every bit as special. They’re simply decorated with pale floral walls and polished wood floors, but it’s the furniture that adds a touch of style to the scene. Big beds are topped with gilt-edged headboards. Bureaus, dressing tables and bedside tables add a vintage edge. And 21st-century toys like satellite TVs bring things up to date.

But the real show-stealer here is the pool area. It’s a small-but-perfectly-formed triangle of turquoise edged by sunbeds and thatched parasols. Potted palms and flowers make it a nice setting for evening drinks under fairy-lit trees.
