Villa Lotea details
Villa Lotea is an absolute jewel, if a little deceptive. From the outside it appears to be just a well-kept, traditional townhouse. But inside it is something special; the sort of place in which visitors immediately wish they lived. This lovingly restored family home is arranged over three floors and is much larger than it looks from the outside. It is hung with art and artefacts and has many original features, like terracotta floors and exposed beam ceilings.
The traditional Malagan ambience of Villa Lotea - it was built over a century ago and completely rebuilt in 2005 - is reflected in the tiny village in which it stands. The locale was known for its flour mill and its olive oil production; the stones which were used to grind the olives are still to be seen beside the road. In fact the place is listed as a historic monument and its photographic qualities are rivalled only by the stunning panoramic views along the gorge and towards the coast, which can be enjoyed from Villa Lotea's pool terrace.
