With a beachfront setting, a chic pool scene and a collection of stylish Junior Suites, the Grand Hotel Bavaro more than deserves its 5-star status.

The adults-only Iberostar Grand Hotel Bavaro is fronted by a ribbon of white sand, that’s washed by the turquoise waters of the Caribbean Sea. The property is set in the middle of a huge complex, which is framed by tropical jungle and dotted with grassy lawns and palms.

You’ve got three swimming pools to choose from, one of which is used as a quiet pool, while another is set aside for daily games and activities. The main pool, meanwhile, is huge, and comes with a swim-up cocktail bar. Surrounding the waters are smart wicker sunbeds and four-poster cabanas.

Junior Suites come as standard here. They’re really luxurious, with cream-painted walls, polished mahogany furnishings and cushioned corner sofas. Mod-cons come in the form of plasma TVs, iPod docking stations and fully-stocked minibars, but the real head-turner is the whirlpool bath, which looks out over the balcony.
