It’s the view that captivates visitors when they first pull up at Poggioluglio. A jigsaw of rolling hills and tall cypress trees, it’s Italy at its scenic best. And in among the greenery stand the 13th-century towers of San Gimignano. Because that’s the other big pull of this particular property – it’s just outside the stone walls encasing one of Tuscany’s finest Medieval hill towns. You can be wandering the narrow streets within a matter of minutes.

There are three parts to Poggioluglio – a one-bedroom apartment, a cottage and a studio. The apartment is spacious and sleeps two or three. The interiors are a clever fusion of rustic and modern, with beautiful wood-beamed ceilings and, in the lounge, a fabulous panoramic window. The cottage also takes two or three people, with a double bedroom and a sofabed in the basement lounge, which you access via a small spiral staircase. Finally, the studio is a smaller, simpler base designed for two, with a bed in the living area.

All three options have terraces and barbecues. In terms of shared facilities, there’s a pool, which showcases the views to full effect, as well as a tennis court. It’s likely you’ll see the owners making the most of them, too. Together with their cats and dogs, they live in a separate house within the grounds.
