You’ll find Villa Afroditi near the little resort of Fontana. Its rural location is just lovely – well off the beaten track with fantastic sea views. In fact, if it’s uninterrupted peace and quiet you’re after, put this place on your shortlist. For the record, the nearest beach, which is shingle, is about a 30-minute walk away.

At the villa itself, the main draw’s probably the rectangular pool. It’s set among gardens, while the terrace enjoys a slightly elevated position to make the most of the views. There’s a barbecue, plus the usual patio furniture that make it a great spot for al fresco meals.

Inside, expect tiled floors throughout and simple, traditional furnishings. The airy living-dining area is open-plan and roomy, while in terms of nice-to-haves, you’ve got all the comforts of home. For starters there’s a fully-equipped kitchen that includes a dishwasher. And there’s also a washing machine, plus a TV and DVD player for a quiet night in.

Another perk is that every room has a godsend in the form of air-conditioning. And that includes the bedrooms – of which there are two twins and one double. The latter’s got an en suite shower room, while the two twins share a separate bathroom.
