This hotel is set in sight of the Mediterranean Sea and is within walking distance of Alghero’s old town.

Set on top of a small hill in Alghero, the Hotel Carlos V has views that are hard to rival. From the terraces, you can look out over the Capo Caccia promontory – an outcrop of limestone rock that’s said to resemble a sleeping giant – and the Mediterranean Sea. The vistas are just as good from the saltwater swimming pool, which is surrounded by immaculate palm gardens.

The hotel’s 179 guest rooms are spread between several floors. Their décor is tasteful, with sea-blue colour schemes and plenty of nice touches, like plump armchairs and velvety carpet. Each room comes with a balcony and some have sea views.

The hotel’s restaurant serves a buffet breakfast of breads, hams, pastries and eggs to order. In the evenings, you can select your dinner from the buffet spread or the à la carte menu, which changes regularly and includes dishes like wild boar ragu and risotto. If you’d rather eat out, there are lots of restaurants in the centre of Alghero, a 15-minute walk away.
