This modern hotel has been built in a traditional Portuguese style – think whitewashed walls, terracotta tile roofs and wrought-iron balconies. It’s tucked in landscaped gardens just footsteps from Candolim Beach, too, so it feels nice and private yet it’s not far from the heart of the action.

Outside, it’s the pool scene that steals the show. There’s a turquoise lagoon-like number fringed by palms and lawns, plus a plunge pool, a separate splash pool for little ones and a spacious sun terrace. Factor in a thatched-roof snack bar and there are plenty of places to unwind.

As for the rooms, they’ve recently been given a fresh new look, so they’re really smart and modern. Neutral walls and floor tiles provide a calm backdrop, while splashes of colour come in the form of mint and chocolate-brown furnishings. In-room extras like air-conditioning and satellite TVs provide the trimmings.

On the food front, there’s a mix of cuisine on offer in the poolside restaurant, with Indian specialities and Chinese dishes playing a starring role. There’s a lounge bar, too, where evening cocktails come with a side-order of live music or cabaret.
