What’s more, it’s less than a 20-minute walk from the nearest bars and restaurants, and just 5 minutes in a taxi from the centre of Funchal. There’s a complimentary shuttle bus laid on, too.

The hotel’s big calling card is its swimming pool. It’s set in a high-up suntrap terrace, which has been designed to maximise the views of the Atlantic. The terrace is freckled with sunbeds and umbrellas, so you’ll find plenty of spots to stretch out in. Plus, there’s a pool bar on hand, serving up cold beers and cocktails.
